Southwest Airlines
NAS supports Las Vegas McCarran International Airport by maintaing the baggage handling systems. These systems are extensive and utilize dozens of PLC Controllers that constatly need attention. Our scan array system will examine and automate the sorting of baggage as it passes on the conveyor system, node 5 tie in for bomb detection in the baggage, installing new controls and monitoring systems for node 8 at McCarren Ariport, generating $300 in revenue for NAS. The latest award of contract from Southwest Airlines was for the T-Point expansion at the airport for $250,000. NAS was recently asked by top management within Southwest Airlines to support all of Southwest Airlines operations throughout the western U.S., which includes operations in California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, and Texas.

Western Mining and Minerals, Las Vegas Nevada
NAS supports all of the automation and controls for St. George operations that include emergency and scheduled services of PLC, SCADA, and intrumentation at the plant.

FKI Logistex • Sky Harbor Airport Baggage Handling / Security Upgrade
NAS was contracted by FKI Logistex (a company that provides solutions for Airport customers including advanced baggage handling, security and RFID track-and-tracing for airports of all sizes) to provide startup, troubleshooting, and I/O checkout services for baggage handling and explosive detection of the International Section of Terminal 4. The system utilized an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC over both ControlNet and Ethernet networks
to deploy a multi-scan bomb detection system that tracked packages through all stages of sorting including each division, merge or transfer to the overflow line through a bar code array.

Honeywell Security Division • Security Panel Assembly
The scope of this project involved manufacturing four different types of panels that Honeywell has designed for station security in remote locations on the Alaska pipeline. The cabinets are located both indoors and outdoors often in a very harsh climate. Some cabinets are located in rooms with exposure to hazardous materials (explosive in nature). All of these panels are manufactured with a UL508 rating, and some also have a Class 1, Division 2 Certification.

City of Mesa • Y2K Upgrade
One of NAS’s major projects was the City of Mesa’s Y2K Upgrade. The project consisted of Modicon PLC’s (using Concept 2.2) and Intellution iFix SCADA, which included the migration of Intellution FIX32 to iFix. NAS’s team consisted of Frank Brown and Brandon Spiker, each performing the configuration, programming and integration portions on this project. The upgrade included the Water / Wastewater / Gas and the Electric Utilities Divisions.

Yuma Mesa Irrigation • Pump Station and SCADA Upgrade
NAS designed and implemented a SCADA and PLC based control system for Yuma Mesa Irrigation District. The PLC controlled the pump station and after bay gate control. Based on the after bay level, the PLC calculated and totalized flow inside of the PLC. The PLC was connected to the Watermaster and Dispatcher’s SCADA PC site approximately 18 miles away via a spread spectrum radio network. The SCADA package was programmed to control the pump station, after bay gate, and produce water usage reports for the Watermaster. The SCADA PC also has remote dialing capabilities on an alarm condition.

City of Phoenix • RTU’s for the Cave Creek Water Reclamation Plant
Brandon Spiker designed the Remote Terminal Units for this project utilizing Modicon Momentum PLC’s and Grayhill 900 MHz spread spectrum radios to deliver and meter reclaimed water to the golf courses and parks in the area. Fred Mergey and Frank Brown were both engineers assigned to this project and they each handled the PLC programming and integration for tying totalized data back to the City of Phoenix’s DCS system at the Cave Creek Water Reclamation Plant.

Honeywell Engines & Systems • Test Cell Control, Monitoring and Reporting
NAS completed this project using Modicon Quantum PLC’s and Wonderware. The project included programming and integration of chiller control, airflow, compressors, and power monitoring for test cell simulation used in testing of aircraft components. Information from the database was totalized monthly and used to compile daily and monthly reports NAS configured for Airflow and Power Usage data logging. The reports and automation gave Honeywell load shedding capabilities, reducing production costs.

San Carlos Irrigation • Radio Telemetry Survey
NAS designed and implemented a spread spectrum radio network for San Carlos Irrigation District. NAS conducted a spread spectrum radio telemetry field study. NAS configured and commissioned five spread spectrum radio based RTU sites. This system has been operating successfully for five years.

City of Cottonwood, Arizona • Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
This was a Design Build project in which NAS was responsible for all instrumentation and control systems engineering, radio communications, PLC and SCADA programming, documentation and O&M manual generation. Cottonwood’s system architecture consists of Modicon Quantum and Momentum PLC’s, Grayhill radios, and iFix SCADA software.

City of Avondale, Arizona • Master SCADA System, Coldwater Springs
NAS was responsible for the programming and implementation of a Wonderware Master SCADA system at Avondale’s Coldwater Springs Booster Station. The system integrates various remote sites using Modicon PLC’s, MDS radios, and Wonderware InTouch Systems.

Town of Gilbert, Arizona • West San Tan Lift Station
This project consisted of panel fabrication, calibration of flow meters and pressure transmitters, startup of analytical equipment, programming of Modicon Momentum PLC in Concept, programming and design of Magelis touchscreens, O&M manuals, and startup and commissioning.

City of Peoria, Arizona • Beardsley Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion
The scope of work for this project consisted of an Intellution SCADA Upgrade, control panel fabrication, various instrumentation configurations, VFD configurations, commissioning and startup, and finally, creating O&M Manuals. During the project, several problems arose that required NAS to redesign both the blower control systems and the SCADA communications network. Communications and control modules were added to the blowers for them to operate per specifications. Existing control panels were modified. Fiber to Ethernet converters were installed. NAS performed the programming and integration associated with the PLC’s and Intellution iFix SCADA System.
